The Tribal Strength Food

For generations, the Pahadi Korwa and other forest communities of Jashpur have eaten Mahua through long days of hard physical work: climbing hills, farming and collecting from the forest.

Our nectar is inspired by that tradition. Hand-selected Mahua flowers, with stamens removed, are collected by tribal women's groups and slow-cooked for hours over firewood until dark, rich and concentrated. Mahua is treated strictly as food: no fermentation, and never an alcohol input.

Why Mahua? What This Forest Flower Brings to Food

Mahua is a traditional forest food of central and eastern India. Tribal communities have eaten it for generations, usually in small portions, cooked or soaked or combined with grains. Food scientists have now studied what is in it.

What studies report in the flower

Natural sugarsGlucose, fructose and, in some samples, sucrose. This is where its natural sweetness and energy come from.
Dietary fibrePresent in the flower. Fibre structure is part of why whole forms of Mahua are eaten as food, not as a sweetener.
MineralsCalcium, potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc have been reported. Amounts vary a lot between trees and regions.
ProteinA modest amount, so a small contributor within a varied diet.
Plant compoundsPhenolics such as gallic acid and quercetin, also found in many fruits and vegetables.

Why it matters as food

A seasonal energy foodTraditionally eaten around the flowering season to support physically active, forest-based lives.
Sweetness inside a mealIts sweetness was part of nourishment, not a refined sweetener on the side.
A forest livelihoodFlowers fall naturally and are collected by hand, mostly by tribal women, so eating Mahua as food keeps that system alive.
An honest note: Mahua is a nutritious traditional food, not a medicine. Its nutrient levels vary by tree, region, maturity and drying, and a 2025 review found its therapeutic effects are not yet validated in human trials. It is also naturally sweet, so count it as sweet food. Mahua flower is food, not alcohol.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mahua Nectar Gold?

A premium Mahua concentrate. Hand-selected Mahua flowers with the stamens removed are slow-cooked with water for hours over firewood until dark, dense and rich. One ingredient: Mahua flower.

Where does the iron come from?

The only ingredients are Mahua flower and water. The iron figure is what ITC Labs, Chennai (NABL accredited) measured in the finished nectar: 26.94 mg per 100 g, which is 7.5 mg in 28 g. Levels can vary a little between batches.

How is Gold different from Mahua Nectar?

Gold uses hand-selected flowers with the stamens removed, and it is denser and more concentrated, so it has more body in every spoon. Lab-tested iron is 26.94 mg per 100 g for Gold and 25.71 mg per 100 g for Mahua Nectar.

How much should I take?

Can it replace sugar in my milk?

Yes, many people swap the sugar spoon for a spoon of Gold. It is still sweet: about 78 g of natural sugars per 100 g, all from the Mahua flower, with no added sugar. Count it as a sweet food.

I'm managing blood sugar. Is it OK?

Gold is not a zero-sugar product. If you manage diabetes or blood sugar, please check with your doctor before using it.

I'm pregnant, breastfeeding or take an iron supplement. Can I still have it?

Gold is a food, but its iron adds to what you already take. Please check with your doctor first.

Is it safe for children?

Children 5 and up can have 1 teaspoon a day. It is not for children below 5.

Does it contain caffeine or alcohol?

No caffeine. No alcohol. Mahua is used strictly as food here, with no fermentation.

Why does iron absorption matter, and what about tea and coffee?

Vitamin C, which Gold also contains, is known to help the body absorb iron from food. Tea and coffee can reduce iron absorption, so keep them about an hour away from your Gold.

How should I store it?

Store in a cool, dry place with the lid closed, and use a clean, dry spoon. Shelf life is 18 months when packed. Once opened, use within 30 to 45 days.
