Frequently Asked Question!

About Mahua & Ingredients
Mahua flowers have a naturally sweet, honey-like taste with light floral notes. When shade-dehydrated, their flavour deepens, making them perfect for laddoos, cookies, teas, syrups, or even eaten like raisins. Traditionally, they are also used in chutneys and other local recipes.
Mahua is unique because it is both food and medicine. Rich in natural sugars, vitamins, and minerals, it has been a lifeline for tribal communities during lean seasons. Unlike most forest flowers which are rarely edible, Mahua has played an integral role in food and cultural traditions.
Most people know Mahua only for its use in local liquor. Over time, this overshadowed its food identity. During colonial times, its nutritious role was forgotten, and it became narrowly associated with alcohol. Jai Jungle is reviving Mahua’s original place as a nutritious superfood and everyday wellness ingredient.
Yes. In moderation, Mahua can be consumed by all age groups as food or infusion. Tribal
families traditionally give Mahua laddoos or tea to children and elders during summer for
cooling and energy.
No. Mahua is naturally caffeine-free, making it suitable for daily use.
Mahua flowers are handpicked during early spring. At Jai Jungle, they are collected using food-grade nets, which prevent contamination from soil and animals. The stamens are carefully removed, and the petals are shade-dehydrated to preserve nutrients, colour, and aroma. The flowers are then hygienically sorted, graded, and packed by trained tribal women.
Shade-dehydration ensures better colour, aroma, and nutrient retention compared to sundrying, which can bleach petals and degrade nutrients. Local, open-floor Mahua often gets contaminated with dust, insects, or animal waste — making it unsafe. Jai Jungle uses food-grade collection nets and dehydration systems to ensure clean, safe, and nutritious flowers.
No. Shade-dehydration only reduces water content. It concentrates natural sugars, vitamins, and minerals, making dried Mahua more nutrient-dense.
Most Mahua-based products have a shelf life of 12–18 months, provided they are stored in a cool, dry place.

Culture, Sustainability & Sourcing
Jai Jungle products are grown, harvested, processed, packed, and shipped by tribal women of Jashpur. From forest collection (like Mahua, rose, hibiscus) to farming (like millet, green tea) and from shade-dehydration to final packaging — every step involves local community members under the Mahua Centre of Excellence.
Every purchase supports sustainable tribal livelihoods by providing employment, fair wages, skill-building, and ownership to women-led groups. It helps preserve traditional food knowledge while creating dignified rural income.
Yes. All ingredients are either wild-harvested forest produce or grown through chemical-free farming. For Mahua in particular, we ensure food-grade collection and processing to maintain hygiene and avoid contamination.
All sourcing, processing, and packaging is done in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, at the Mahua Centre of Excellence under hygienic and FSSAI-compliant conditions.
Because they are sourced directly from tribal growers and forest collectors, without middlemen. The same communities that collect or grow the raw material are also involved in processing, ensuring authenticity and traceability.
Yes. Our base is Jashpur District, Chhattisgarh. Expansion to other tribal regions will happen responsibly, with the same community-led model.
